I am running for reelection to the Greenville City Council in the upcoming election, and I value your help as we continue working together to build a city of excellence.
In this very challenging economic environment, I am proud to have worked on developing a prudent city budget, which required no cuts in essential services and no increases in taxes. Indeed, the city has been able to hire, or has budgeted for, 14 new police officers, 12 new fire and rescue workers, and a neighborhood ombudsman, and we have significantly upgraded our law enforcement technology. Crime in Greenville is at a 10-year low, and violent crime has decreased 15% since 2006, although I hasten to add that some of the factors impacting crime are beyond the city's control. We are continuing, in a fiscally careful way, with critical transportation, center city, greenway, bike, sidewalk, and other revitalization projects.
